Today, the OneAmerica Skagit Group started out in high spirits. As of 11am, they were 5 miles out of Arlington with a pilot car following them.

This amazing group consists of:

Jose Ortiz

Mary Francisco Lopez

Juan Jose Maldonado

Miguel Gaitan

Lilia Ortiz

Jim Nick Ortiz- 12 years old

Miguelito- almost 9 years old

Julio- 11 years old

Kevin

Every200 meters they stop and say a prayer, each taking a turn.

This morning, Julio (11 years old) read a prayer in Spanish and English for all migrant families as they remembered Jesus as a migrant. Julio and his three siblings are U.S. Citizens. Their parents are immigrants from Mexico and their mother was deported two years ago and their family has been torn apart since. He is walking for Immigration Reform so one day his family can be reunited again.

It is these stories that keep the group motivated.

“Todo el dolor duele, y nos da la energía para seguir adelante, y luchar para una causa noble y la justicia.” “All of the pain hurts, and it gives us the energy to move forward and fight for a noble cause and justice”- Miguel Gaitan “Lo bonito de ayer fue que todos estuvimos cansado y tuvimos los pies dolidos, pero no cabemos el ánimo. Tenemos momentos de rechazo pero no es nada. Nada en comparación con lo que nuestros hermanos sufren en el desierto. Hacemos una oración cada 200 metro para darles más fuerza.” “The most beautiful thing about yesterday was that we were all tired and our feet hurt, but it didn’t take our spirits. We have moments of set back, but it is nothing. Nothing in comparison with what our brothers and sisters suffer crossing the desert. We say a prayer every 200 meters to give us more strength.” Juan Jose. Please stay tuned as we follow this resilient group in their trek for justice! We will have videos and pictures, so don’t miss it!
