Mehdi immigrated to United States from Iran in 1973. Mehdi is committed to social justice and has been active within the Iranian community on a number of fronts. Mehdi is a member of the National Iranian American Council (NIAC), of the ACLU and Amnesty International. He currently works as a structural engineer at Boeing. Mehdi was on the OneAmerica board from 2002 to 2004, and then re-joined for a second term in 2007.
