Eastside Legal Assistance Program (ELAP)

ELAP is a non-profit organization providing civil legal assistance to low income residents of East and Northeast King County. ELAP encompasses the Domestic Violence Legal Fund (DVLF) which serves all of King County. Upon referral from a variety of domestic violence agencies, ELAP provides representation for those unable to hire a private attorney until temporary orders are in place. In addition to the DVLF, the agency provides many other services to low income residents of East and Northeast King County including:

  • General law, family law, and domestic violence clinics: Free consultations with volunteer attorneys in Bellevue, Redmond, Kirkland and Bothell clinics
  • Direct (pro bono) representation: Free representation by a volunteer attorney to eligible low income clients screened through the clinic process.
  • Client Plus: Assistance by volunteer attorneys in addition to that received in clinic and workshops without actual representation.
  • The Wills Project: Simple wills, durable powers of attorney and directive to physicians provided by volunteer attorneys.
  • Self-Help Divorce Workshops: Workshops held monthly for individuals seeking uncontested divorces, to provide procedural information and the preparation of paperwork.
  • Lecture Series: Monthly lectures are held at local Senior and Community centers. Volunteer attorneys discuss estate planning and other legal issues.
